2012 is a very special year for us - it's our 5th Birthday! Whether you have been with us from the beginning or have only just started recently we would like to thank you! 

Our Christmas Party is always the most popular occasion on our event calendar with over 200 people attending last year! This year will be our biggest & best yet - don't miss it!

What's going on? 
A fun & casual social gathering of everyone involved with Drive Fitness - that's you! We promise that there will be no fitness challenges sprung on people on the night.

We will be announcing the winners of the 8 week weight loss challenge and recognising other great achievements from throughout the year with awards and prizes. 

There will be a FREE raffle with prizes given away on the night to celebrate the 5th Birthday of Drive Fitness!

Finger food will be provided and drinks will be available for purchase from our private bar.

The Tarragindi Bowls Club (30 Andrew Av, Tarragindi) upstairs in the private function space with city views. 

When is it?
Friday 2 November 2012, 7pm start. Please RSVP by Friday 19 October. We have an RSVP list at all Drive Fitness studios so please write your name down to help our catering.

Weight Loss Challenge Week 2 Update


Congratulations to those of you who have got off to a great start in the 8 Week Weight Loss Challenge! For those of you who have been slow starting, don't be discouraged. Continue to work hard during your training sessions and make smart food choices and your results will come.

Boot Camp Is Back in the Park!


After relocating all boot camps to the nearest Drive Fitness studio during winter we are ready to move things back to the park. From next week (Monday 24 September) all 3 Drive Fitness boot camps will be back at their original outdoor location.


  • Camp Hill Boot Camp will return to Perth Park on Perth St. Monday & Wednesday 5:30am.
  • Holland Park Boot Camp will return to Glindemann Park on Logan Rd. Tuesday & Thursday 5:30am. 
  • Moorooka Boot Camp will return to Pegg's Park on Koala Rd. Tuesday & Thursday 5:30am.

Weight Loss Challenge Week 1 Update


Congratulations to all Weight Loss Challenge participants for getting the ball rolling last week! We had roughly 70 people weigh in during week 1 and from all reports motivation in the Drive Fitness studios is at an all time high. We have had some great weight loss goals set and all trainers are enthusiastic to see these goals achieved.

The Saturday morning boot camps got off to a great start with 20 people attending the 6:30am session and 12 attending both the 7:30am and the 8:30am sessions. These boot camps continue weekly during the 8 week weight loss challenge. Click here to see the full weight loss challenge schedule of events for more details. 

The first seminar on Tuesday 11 September addressed 7 weight loss myths that you should NOT  believe. These include:
  1. That you need to find the secret diet to lose weight.
  2. That some foods burn more energy to digest then they provide and can lead to rapid weight loss as result.
  3. That foods labelled low fat, no added sugar and 99% fat free can be eaten in unlimited quantities while trying to lose weight.
  4. That organic food is weight loss food and you can eat as much of it as you like.
  5. That very low energy diets are the best solution for long term weight loss.
  6. That cutting out carbohydrates after lunch time will magically result in weight loss.
  7. That weight loss is difficult - it's not, everybody can lose weight!

Run club is still on this Saturday in addition to the weight loss challenge boot camp sessions. You can attend both if you like (run club from 7-8am and boot camp from 8:30-9:15am)! Run Club meets this Saturday at Tarragindi studio 7am for the Toohey Forest Loop (7.8km) - see you there!

A series focusing on weight loss myths wouldn't be complete without addressing spot reduction. I get asked this question quite frequently: Can you burn fat from a specific part of the body by concentrating exercises on that area? Infomercials advertising the 'latest and greatest' ab machines claim this is possible but common sense makes most of us second guess. Why Should Everyone Dead Lift?


The 2nd Annual Drive Fitness Dead Lift Challenge is now less than 2 months away - taking place on 27 October 2012.

It is fitting that we introduce the dead lift and explain why everyone should include it (or a variation of it) in their training program.

The dead lift is widely considered to be one of the best exercises for building all over body strength. In a lot of people's opinion (including mine) it is the 'king of all lifts' and it serves a very obvious functional skill transfer to many daily tasks and sporting movements. It is one of the 3 lifts along with the back squat and bench press that combine to form the sport of power lifting and it is a core component of the 2 Olympic lifts clean and jerk and snatch.

The dead lift should not be limited to exercise programs for elite athletes and weight lifters, rather, everyone can benefit from what the dead lift has to offer. The dead lift recruits the muscles of the back (upper and lower), abs, legs (front and back), glutes, arms and shoulders while developing core strength and stability and grip strength. So much on offer from one single movement!

The demand of working multiple large muscle groups through a full range of motion is exhausting which makes it a great exercise for weight control due to the energy demand and metabolic benefit. This makes the dead lift a great exercise for weight loss, fitness, strength and power training programs.

8 Week Weight Loss Challenge: Details, Prizes & Schedule of Events



It all starts this Monday 10 September! First weigh in will take place between Monday 10 - Friday 14 September. Make sure you have your personal training times all organised so you can get your weekly weigh in with your trainer!

Simply weigh in with your personal trainer every week for 8 weeks during your personal training session and achieve the greatest % of weight loss possible! Before & after photos are encouraged but completely optional, waist, hip, thigh and arm circumferences will be measured in weeks 1 & 8 but will not be factored in to the final score. Winners are determined by % of body weight lost only.

Bridge to Brisbane 2012 Results & Recap

Well done to everyone from Drive Fitness who finished the 10km Bridge to Brisbane on Sunday 2 September! It was great to see so many people giving it a go and from all reports everyone involved had a great time. The running conditions were perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic, the team bus made the logistics easy and the BBQ was a pleasant finish to the morning.

This year we didn't just have the biggest Drive Fitness Bridge to Brisbane team ever but we also had the biggest team from any fitness industry related business - bigger then any other gym, run club or personal training studio (Bridge to Brisbane notified us of this). This is very impressive and a credit to the commitment of the people that train at Drive Fitness.

From a personal trainer's point of view it was a fantastic feeling seeing so many people achieve great results and a sense of achievement. The time you finished in is not as important as the effort you put in.

We look forward to having an even bigger Drive Fitness team next year! Results below:

Good Luck to All Drive Fitness Bridge to Brisbane Runners!


Bridge to Brisbane Team Bus Details


  • Arrive at the Mt Gravatt Studio (64 Clausen St, Mt Gravatt) at 4:50am sharp to pick up your race pack and board the bus.
  • The bus will depart at 5:10am - allowing plenty of time arrive by race start (6:10am).
  • Following the event please make your way to meeting point A (near where you collect your finishers t-shirt). As we finish and form groups at the meeting point we will make our way back to the bus.
  • The bus will wait for all participants who are returning on the bus to finish and board before returning to the Mt Gravatt Studio.
  • Back at the Mt Gravatt Studio a BBQ will be available to all Drive Fitness team members. It will be ready to eat the moment you step off the bus!
