Fat % of foods - you may be surprised

avocado
Dietary fat is a major contributor to daily energy intake and weight gain and a lot of it goes unnoticed. Fat provides 37kj per 1 gram which is significant when compared to carbohydrate and protein that provide 16kj and 17kj per 1 gram respectively. If you are looking to loose or control your body weight it's not only important that you can identify foods that contain fat but you are also aware to what extent. I have listed foods and their approximate fat % to help put the fat % of foods in perspective - you might find a few surprises!

We will be heading up Toohey Rd from the Tarragindi studio then heading through Toohey Forest until we reach the Griffith Uni Nathan Campus Ring Rd. It is a slightly longer run then the Toohey Forest track from the last 2 weeks (closer to 7.5km).

We will be hitting the beep test during early February so let's get some training in! We also have the Twilight Run coming up on 18 March. For more info on the Twilight Run click here: http://www.drivefitness.blogspot.com/search/label/Twilight%20Run.

See you all at Drive Fitness Tarragindi 7am this Saturday.

Dead Balls are Coming to Drive Fitness Mt Gravatt!

We have had a long running problem at Drive Fitness with our medicine balls not handling the workouts we put them through - they tend to last less than 6 months. All the slams, wall balls and various other power and conditioning drills end up busting them open or splitting them in half.

Problem solved! For the last 6 months we have been experimenting with a new type of ball called a dead ball at Drive Fitness Tarragindi. We have been encouraging everyone to give them the hardest flogging possible and they are still showing no signs of wear or tear.

Dead balls are rubber filled with iron sand. They don't bounce easily so you will have to work for every rep. They are like a cross between a sand bag and a medicine ball. ENJOY!

Bench Press Challenge 2012 Major News: Postponed

The 2012 bench press challenge, originally scheduled for 10 March, has been push backed to May. Unfortunately we were forced to make this change due to March being a busy month with a number of other local fitness events that are popular with people that train at Drive Fitness. Amongst those is the Twilight Run on 18 March that Drive Fitness is entering a team in.

We apologise if this inconveniences anyone's training program but we expect everyone will welcome the news as an opportunity to fit some more preparation in.

The NEW official bench press challenge date will be announced over the coming weeks for a Saturday morning during May!

Twilight Run 18 March 2012 Update: Race Singlet & Course Map

Our Drive Fitness Twilight Run team is starting grow. If you register now you can still participate in the event at early bird prices. Prices will increase again from the start of February. Please note, these are not Drive Fitness prices, this is the price of the event itself, it doesn't cost any extra to join the event as part of the Drive Fitness team.

We would love to see as many people as possible join our team for this great event. There is a 10km or half marathon distance option. This is a great event to keep us motivated leading up to the Bridge to Brisbane later in the year and perfect to measure where our fitness is at. Our Saturday walk & run club is available to everyone who trains at Drive Fitness for FREE to help you prepare for this event and events like it.

Walk & Run Club Saturday 21 Jan

We had a great turn out for our first walk & run club of 2012 on Saturday just gone. Everyone did well to brush off the cobwebs and get back into it. We did a 6km track from the Tarragindi studio through Toohey Forest to Griffith Uni Nathan Campus and back again. Some people worked up some extra distance with double backs and others worked a bit less by cutting the track a bit short.

This week we will be meeting at Tarragindi again at the same time 7am.

We will be having our first beep test of 2012 in the next few weeks - stay tuned for details while we wait to confirm a location. We also have the upcoming Twilight Run on March 18. Follow this link for more Twilight Run information and instructions on how to register: http://drivefitness.blogspot.com/2011/12/twilight-run-date-announced-drive.html.

Looking forward to running with everyone this Saturday. See you there!

7 Tips to Make Your New Year's Resolution Stick

75% will have failed by the end of January and 95% by the end of the year - that's an unfortunate fate for the vast majority of news year's resolutions. It's not surprising that most new year's resolutions fail. Often they are decided at 12:01am on new year's eve after a couple (or more) glasses of champagne with very little thought or preparation invested in them. Don't repeat past failures AGAIN this year, here are 7 tips to give you an advantage over last year and the year before... and the year before that.

Welcome Back in 2012!

A BIG Happy New Year and welcome back to everyone as we all roll in from holidays over the next few weeks. I am looking forward to getting back to training people, training myself and getting on with things in 2012.

2011 was a huge year for Drive Fitness. Our personal training team grew to 9 trainers, we introduced a successful Dead Lift Challenge and the Brisbane Kokoda Challenge into our event calendar, we entered a team of over 50 into the Bridge to Brisbane and most importantly we helped many people achieve their fitness goals.

We look forward to an equally eventful 2012. We have a number of new ideas that we hope will keep fitness fun and exciting for you as you continue your training with us! Wishing you all the best with your training in the new year from the whole Drive Fitness team.
