Run Club Update: 14 April
We smashed out some tough intervals, 4 x hilly 700m max efforts with rest periods equal to work time. This type of training is always uncomfortable (and it should be if you're doing it properly) so well done to everyone who turned up and didn't avoid the intervals.
We will be meeting at Tarragindi 7am next Saturday 21 April for a 7.8km Toohey Forest loop. See you there!
Lap split results from 14 April 2012 below:

Changes to Drive Fitness Email Communication
You may have noticed from the start of 2012 that our regular email 'news bursts' (1-2 times per week) were replaced by a monthly email newsletter. We decided to make this change to reduce the number of emails you received from us - we don't want to be too annoying!
Our monthly email (Drive Fitness News) includes all the latest event information, boot camp and walk & run club results and updates, general Drive Fitness news and special offers. In addition to all these updates we include training and nutrition articles, all of which are researched and published by Drive Fitness personal trainers. By preparing the articles ourselves we can keep them relevant to YOUR concerns and interests.
If you are not receiving our monthly Drive Fitness News you can join our mailing list by clicking here.
You can un-subscribe at any time (we won't be offended) by following the link at the bottom of the newsletter.
Concept 2 Rowing Machine Arrives at Mt Gravatt!
The new rowing machine has arrived at Drive Fitness Mt Gravatt! Be ready for it during your next session!
We look forward to hearing your feedback about this addition to our training methods. Your feedback will help us decide if rowing will be introduced at all Drive Fitness locations.
Why did we decide to introduce rowing to Drive Fitness personal training sessions?
- Provides a superb aerobic work-out.
- Exercises every major muscle group in the body.
- Benefits heart and lungs with superb cardiovascular conditioning.
- Is a time-efficient form of exercise and an excellent stress-reliever.
- Is weight-supporting and non-jarring and so is ideal for rehabilitative exercise.
- It can be a very effective fat burning and weight loss exercise.
- It is a lifelong exercise, suitable for people of all ages.
- It provides a smooth, rhythmic movement that is both safe and enjoyable.

Free weight exercise alternatives to popular exercise machines (part 4): leg curl & leg extension
It's been a while since I've touched on this series of articles - I figured most of you got the point after we looked at the leg press, lat pull down and chest press and their superior free weight alternatives. After roughly 4 months of giving the issue a rest I think it's time for a friendly reminder as to why my training foundations are centred on free weight movements. The leg extension and leg curl machines share a tied second place behind the leg press as the most popular leg exercise machine in your 'typical gym'. Let's take a quick look at these machines and two free weight alternatives - the lunge and dead lift.Sunday, April 1, 2012
