BIG Drive Fitness Tarragindi News! We're Expanding!

It's time we confirm the whispers that have been getting around the Tarragindi studio recently

Exactly 5 years since Drive Fitness Tarragindi first opened it's doors we are very proud & excited to announce that:

Drive Fitness Tarragindi is expanding! We are moving into a NEW, BIGGER & BETTER training studio.

This expansion will make Drive Fitness Tarragindi one of the biggest & best equipped personal training ONLY facilities in Brisbane.

With roughly 200 personal training sessions taking place every week at the Tarragindi studio this expansion is well overdue. We would like to thank everyone who has loyally stuck with us over the last 12 - 18 months while we have clearly been too busy for our small studio and we invite you to enjoy a new, even better (yes, I know it's hard to believe) training experience in the improved  Drive Fitness Tarragindi.

Your training location doesn't change - we will still be located at the same convenient location at Kuring Gai Avenue, Tarragindi. All these changes will take place during the next month with the goal to be fully operational out of the new studio by Monday 20 August. There will be NO interruption to your regular training sessions during this time.

To celebrate we have a special for all existing customers offering:

FREE Drive Fitness shirt or singlet + a FREE personal training session

for all word of mouth referrals to our Tarragindi studio. This is our way of saying  thank you for telling people about the new Drive Fitness studio.

Important: Holland Park Boot Camp News

Jared (Holland Park Boot Camp Trainer) will be on holidays for the next two weeks starting Thursday 26 July and as a result the Holland Park boot camp (which is presently meeting at the Mt Gravatt studio) will take a break.

To give all Holland Park boot campers a training option while Jared is away we are encouraging all of you to join Tim at the Tarragindi studio for your boot camp sessions. Sessions at the Tarragindi studio take place on the same days and at the same times - Tuesday & Thursday mornings 5:30am.

These changes will be in effect from Thursday 26 July to Thursday 9 August with a return to normal Holland Park boot camp scheduling on Tuesday 14 August.

Brisbane Stampede Spots Running Out

If you are doing the Brisbane Stampede but have not yet registered you are running out of time! Spots are running out and some starting times are already sold out.

For those of you who have been asking, we are not entering an official Drive Fitness team for the Brisbane Stampede event - rather, we are all registering as individuals so you can choose a start time that suits you.

This will be a great training event for those interested in joining our Drive Fitenss team for next year's Tough Mudder Brisbane event.

Run Club Update

Just another good reason to do interval training - it works us closer to our VO2 Max and therefore results in a greater afterburn effect.

Great work with the intervals this morning everyone! No one particularly enjoys intervals but we all know they are good for us. Results below for Saturday 21 July 500m Hard Effort / 500m Recovery.
Remember to wear your watch for interval training sessions so you can record your 500m splits. See you all next week at Tarragindi 7am for the Toohey Forest Loop (7.8km).

5 step plan for smart snacking

We all know (and dread) the feeling, the rumble in the tummy that signals 'snack time' and the unfortunate end to a perfect day of eating (so far). Those little cravings between meals have the power to turn an otherwise perfect diet into a weight loss nightmare if you are not prepared to deal with them. Smart snacking for effective weight loss and weight control requires an action plan. Cakes and biscuits in the staff lunch room, the left overs in the kid's lunch box and the chocolate you have stashed away are just a few of the potential pitfalls that threaten your weight loss goal. Here is an easy to understand 5 step plan for smart snacking to help you avoid the dangers of 'snack time'

What is BMR? In 100 words or less.

BMR (basal metabolic rate) is the amount of energy the body expends at rest - the energy required to sustain vital physiological functions. BMR can be thought of like the 'body's furnace' which burns energy fairly consistently all day, everyday. BMR is the greatest contributor to total daily energy expenditure representing 60-75% for most people and is therefore an important consideration for weight loss. Increasing BMR will increase the total daily energy expenditure and contribute to the energy deficit required for weight loss. Greater the negative difference between energy in and energy out, greater the fat burning / weight loss results.

7pm Friday 2nd November at Tarragindi Bowls Club, 30 Andrew Ave, Tarragindi.

Our Christmas Party is the most popular occasion on our event calendar. Last year we had over 170 people come and celebrate and we are expecting 2012 to be our biggest and best Christmas Party yet! We have the upstairs function space at the Tarragindi Bowls Club all to ourselves with food platters provided, drinks available from our private bar, music, prizes and awards for significant fitness achievements throughout the year.

The 2012 Christmas Party is a particularly significant occasion for us, celebrating not only the end of another great year but 5 years since Drive Fitness first began.
